Because some 300km of paths in the area are way marked and graded it's incredibly easy to plan a route that will suit your own level of fitness and adventure.

Walking

Morzine and alpine walking & trekking holidays go hand-in-hand. Many of the mountain lifts run in the summer which means a lot of the climbing can be taken out of a walk, leaving you free to enjoy the mountain tops and refresh at one of the numerous chalet bars that decorate the surrounding hillsides.

The chalet location is a real gem for heading straight into the hills and we provide a free route-planning service and all necessary maps you might need. There are easy 2-3 hour walks right up to day-long efforts, many with spectacular views of Mont Blanc or across into Switzerland.

If your horizons are a bit more challenging, then the mountain refuges that open in the summer will enable you to plan an overnight stay and a longer trek of several days.

Mountain Running

The area is also an excellent base for mountain running in the French Alps. Chris is a keen fellrunner and will provide advice on which of the many training routes is best for you. In addition there are two annual races that you can participate in:

Creve Couer - run in early July this is a tough 1200m climb followed by a short 300m descent over approx 10km. Winning time 58mins.

La Couratt de Nyon - run in mid-August this is an uphill only race from Morzine town centre to the summit of the Pointe de Nyon (see the picture above) a 1050m ascent in 7km. It's also followed by a superb mountain festival which includes plenty to eat (and drink!). Winning time 52m. For further details take look at the race web-site

To satisfy our running guests we have also devised our own 'Chalet Challenge' running route, which heads up to the Swiss border at the top of our valley. This 6km / 540m up & down route has attracted some high calibre runners including Fellrunning Champion Rob Jebb, and the full list of completed races is headed by Brian Cole, the GB Ultra-distance running champion. Here are a few highlights (and lowlights!) from the list

  • Fastest up & down time: Brian Cole 36m 22s
  • Fastest ascent: Brian Cole 23m 02s
  • Fastest descent: Chris Hodgson 11m 20s
  • Fastest Vet: Simon Ellis 39m 41s
  • Slowest up & down time: David Heeley 1hr 04m 30s
